Stacy’s Mom 167

Stacy’s Mom 167, by Fountains of Wayne from the album Welcome Interstate Managers

Stacy’s mom has got it goin on
Stacy’s mom has got it goin on
You know I’m not the little boy that I used to be
I’m all grown-up now baby can’t you see
Stacy’s mom has got it goin on
She’s all I want, and I’ve waited for so long
Stacy can’t you see, you’re just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong but I’m in love with Stacy’s mom.

My art project, 365 Blisspop, where I create a year’s worth [yep, 365] of digital collages, with indie songs as my subject

Still not sure about the order of my pieces in this web blog, I thought alternating between current pieces and older ones might be a good way to go. We will see. So I thought posting Stacy’s Mom before a current piece, borrowing from the main source, would be appropriate. It would and could show a possibly evolving process of my work, or just lazily ripping myself off. Maybe a little of both.

This was an early collage piece, playing with halftones and Photoshop actions, in which I am still an amateur at, but will continue to dabble in.

The La’s 386

The La’s 386, a tribute to the short lived but brilliant, britpop band The La’s, and their graphic cover art.

The band signed to Go! Discs in 1987 and commenced recording of their debut album. Following the release of singles “Way Out” (1987), “There She Goes” (1988) and “Timeless Melody” (1990) and having aborted several recording sessions with different producers, the band released their debut album The La’s in 1990 to critical acclaim and modest commercial success. The group entered a prolonged hiatus in 1992 which lasted almost two decades. The group later reformed briefly in the mid-1990s, 2005 and 2011. However, no new recordings have been released.

I wanted to do a pop art collage this time, and find a band with bright & shiny melodies. I have been listening to the self-titled The La’s on a CD I bought in the $2 bargain bins at Rasputin Records. Along with Morrissey, Band of Horses and The New Pornographers. What a find for a few dollars! And with that I veered towards this pop art style in the vein of fleet of gypsies on dA. It was an organic process, I like the end results, it’s something I would like to try more of.

Just Like Honey 383

Just Like Honey 383, based on the tune Just Like Honey by The Jesus & Mary Chain, from the album Psychocandy

Listen to the girl
As she takes on half the world
Moving up and so alive
In her honey dripping beehive
Beehive
It’s good, so good, it’s so good
So good

I wanted to do something a bit naughty and sexy, after so many surreal sci-fi and fantasy concepts, how many of those can you do and see all over cyberspace? I truly admire fleetofgypsies on deviant Art. His creative yet erotic, grungy and irreverent pieces always jump start and inspire me.

Can’t Find My Way Home 382

Can’t Find My Way Home 382, based on the classic hit by Blind Faith. A tribute to all Supergroups including Blind Faith, Traveling Wilburys, Bad Company and The Dirty Mac

The album was released in the UK with a cover photo of an 11-year-old girl named Mariora Goschen. The cover photo because as famous as the album itself, since it showed Goschen naked and holding a model spaceship.

Bob Seidemann came up with the concept and took the photo, which represents humankind’s relationship with technology (this was when the mission to put a man on the moon was big news). The band wasn’t yet named, and when Seidemann took the photo, he called it “Blind Faith.” Clapton decided that should be the name of the band.

Drake 379

Drake 379. No, not the rapper. But the larger than life, fire-breathin,’ green, scaly, scary dragon in both mythology and media. Something enormous and awe-inspiring in scale and size, fantastical and terrifying at once, the supernatural stuff of dreams and nightmares. Drakes are smaller than dragons, but still fly and breath fire but have no magical abilities. Basically, Drakes are evil.

Finding art like this that is so mystical, wonderful and amazing, that is hundreds of years old, is truly refreshing. Looking at images on the Internet Archive Book Images on Flickr is a visual treat. Using some of this original imagery in my collage work is an honor.

Beauties and Beasts 381

Beauties and Beasts 381, based on the series Beauties and Beasts: An Erotic Shapeshifter Anthology

In this collection, we offer nine spicy stories of shape shifters and werebeasts on the prowl for love. Prepare for a delicious treat including panthers, selkies, vampires and werebears (oh my).

Most I can say about this piece, is I was excited about the background pattern, which was part of my photo shoot at Mare Island, CA. Populated with vacant, torn up buildings, I was in my visual element. I added the girl and bear for dynamic kicks, from previous collages.
