Gone Girl 384

Gone Girl 384, based on the David Fincher feature film Gone Girl.

Men actually think this girl exists. Maybe they’re fooled because so many women are willing to pretend to be this girl. For a long time Cool Girl offended me. I used to see men – friends, coworkers, strangers – giddy over these awful pretender women, and I’d want to sit these men down and calmly say: You are not dating a woman, you are dating a woman who has watched too many movies written by socially awkward men who’d like to believe that this kind of woman exists and might kiss them. I’d want to grab the poor guy by his lapels or messenger bag and say: The bitch doesn’t really love chili dogs that much – no one loves chili dogs that much! -Gillian Flynn

I have been a long-time fan of David Fincher movies. Once he got out of sci-fi and twisted flicks, into more conventional. relationship-based movies, I was hesitant. But after watching The Social Network and Gone Girl, I was impressed and amazed all over again. Gone Girl wanted me to read the book badly. And the Trent Reznor soundtrack only amplified the weirdly, layered, unsettling vibe of the film. I was going for this same vibe in the piece anyway, and midway through they both came together nicely.

Her Space Holiday 375

Her Space Holiday 375, Inspired by the indie electronica band Her Space Holiday

i think it’s unfair
the only time i go away
is the only time you care

you don’t see the point
 preparing for the end
 you’ve made all these plans
 you put all your friends
 in silent films

I went with one of my paper stock backgrounds, and played with these pink, pastel hues. It took on this classical, vintage feel which felt warm and inviting to me. I want to contrast the pink florals with something modern and fresh. The green and black dots seemed to do the trick.

I loved these older ads that were on Flickr. These women modeling hats seem to mesh well with the background patterns and colors. And mesh I did.

Just Like Honey 383

Just Like Honey 383, based on the tune Just Like Honey by The Jesus & Mary Chain, from the album Psychocandy

Listen to the girl
As she takes on half the world
Moving up and so alive
In her honey dripping beehive
Beehive
It’s good, so good, it’s so good
So good

I wanted to do something a bit naughty and sexy, after so many surreal sci-fi and fantasy concepts, how many of those can you do and see all over cyberspace? I truly admire fleetofgypsies on deviant Art. His creative yet erotic, grungy and irreverent pieces always jump start and inspire me.
